Back in the 1980s, people were less aware about computer security.

My cousin Aaron used to prank on his high school teachers. Leave printouts of their credit report in odd places. Change his transcripts. It's like he was the hero in a cheesy movie.

Eventually, the FBI came to his house and he got a Criminal Record. This was a Terrible Thing. He Couldn't Go To College. He Lived In A Trailer.

In the 1990s, I was exploring dialup Bulletin Board Systems. I didn't really do anything with them, maybe I read some stuff, maybe I played some games, maybe I downloaded pictures of girls. I dunno. There were probably only twelve BBS running in Montgomery, and I couldn't get away with Long Distance Calls.

I specifically remember that one of the boards was "gay and lesbian", which is something that I didn't really understand that real people were into. I typed random made-up info into the login screen, apparently I made myself 76 years old, which got the Sysop's attention. He wanted to have a conversation about being old and gay, I +++ ATH0

Later, I was at my aunt and uncle's house, which is far away. My cousin Aaron was living in a trailer in the front yard (because He Couldn't Go To College). My Aunt Linda went out of the way to corner me alone, her voice was strained, "Have you been using a modem?" that last word could have been "heroin", from the was she was shaking. I said 'yes, some'. She grabbed me, started sobbing, everything else she said was completely incoherent, but I think she was praying.
