rice and bean infrastructure

So I've been operating on the assumption that our society is strained to its limit keeping up with its lunatic supply/demand/dispose cycle, and that the broken gulf of mexico may have pushed it over the edge.
New evidence:
Rice Junkies (214 SW Stark St Portland, OR 97204) has raised their RICE&BEANS price from $3 to $3½
and changed the proportion from (50% rice : 50% bean) to (70% rice : 30% bean)
...
it's still the best way to not eat poison when you are downtown all day
