Twice a year my bosses try to mass-mail a newsletter
which means dealing with post office regulations
they can never remember how it works
that wouldnt be so bad, but the college apparently has only one copy of the post office's mass mailing guide, which is poorly photocopied,
and worse
has random words that have been white-outed and replaced
with random other words
apparently for clarification
for example, in one paragraph
the words "more than" have been replaced
with "less than"
rendering the entire page meaningless

Date: 2002-06-17 09:51 am (UTC)we're cool techie company, email will work
oh, and let's make the update a kick ass pretty .pdf file that's 2.2 megs.
okay,
now let's put 2000 people in "send to" of this email.
end result?
some secretary in one single CLICK of the send button attempted to send a 2.2 GIG email out , THOROUGHLY crashed the living FUCK out of the exchange server, caused 2.5 days of downtime.
NOT TO MENTION all the poor saps that called us and complained AND put us on some spam mailer blacklists cause of the huge ass 2.2 meg email we had sent to them with no announcement, try downloading that on a 36k modem...
